The Bay

San Diego Bay is one of the calmest and most scenic boating destinations in California, which is why we run every Malarky charter here. During your cruise, you'll usually pass:

Dolphin sightings are common during charters, especially up at the bow trampoline where guests often watch them swim through the wake just feet away. Your captain will adjust the route based on the day's conditions and what your group's enjoying.

On the Water

Anchor, swim, and relax.

Most longer charters include time to anchor in calm water so your group can swim, float, and enjoy the bay at your own pace. Add-ons like paddleboards and the floating lily pad turn your charter into a full San Diego boat day.

Pricing

Private charter pricing.

Private yacht charters start at $550 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. The USCG-licensed captain is $50/hour, paid directly to the captain.

Most guests book 3 to 4 hour charters to fully enjoy the bay, relax at anchor, and catch sunset on the water.

Private charter questions, answered.

It means the entire 47-foot catamaran is yours for the day. No shared deck, no other groups onboard, no scheduled tour. Your music, your pace, your conversations. Captain and crew run the boat, you run the day.
A ticketed cruise sells individual seats, so you're sharing the boat with other ticket-buyers. Private charter is the opposite, you book the whole vessel for your group of up to 12. The whole boat is yours. We don't sell tickets to Malarky charters; the only way to book is private.
Malarky is U.S. Coast Guard certified for up to 12 guests plus captain and crew. We can't exceed that under any circumstances, it's a Coast Guard rule. If your group is larger, our sister vessel Triton Charters can host up to 100 guests on a 75-foot catamaran with bartender and dance floor. For mid-sized groups up to 35 with themed packages, see Alana Yacht Rental.
San Diego Bay only. Most charters take in the Coronado Bridge, USS Midway, Star of India, Seaport Village, and the Embarcadero, with the option to anchor for swimming or water-toy time. Your captain will propose options based on the day's conditions and you choose. We don't run open-Pacific or Mission Bay charters.
2-hour minimum. Most groups book 3 to 4 hours, which is what we recommend. That gives time to get out, anchor at a swim spot, deploy paddleboards or the lily pad, eat and drink, watch the city pass by, and return. Anything shorter feels rushed.
Yes to both. Malarky is one of the only yacht charters in San Diego that allows BYOB and BYOF. Two rules: please, no drinking from glass on deck (pour into the plastic cups we provide), and no red wine (it stains the deck). Beyond that, bring what you want. If you'd rather have catering, we partner with local caterers, mention catering when you book and we'll send menu and pricing options.
