Luxury 47-foot Voyage performance catamaran Malarky on San Diego Bay at golden hour
Luxury, Done Differently

Luxury, done differently.

Luxury yacht charters come in all different styles. Some are built for large crowds, loud parties, and packed dance floors. Malarky was built for something more personal.

This is luxury at a smaller scale, your own private yacht, your own pace, and a day designed entirely around your group. By the second hour onboard, the crew knows everyone's name, your drinks are flowing, the music is yours, and the day starts to feel effortless.

It's relaxed luxury, the kind that feels natural instead of formal.

If your group is larger than twelve, our sister vessel Triton Charters hosts up to 100 guests on a 75-foot catamaran with bar service and a dance floor. For groups of 13–35 with themed packages, Alana Yacht Rental is built for that range. Malarky is built for the other end, a private yacht charter at twelve-guest scale.

The Vessel

Meet Malarky.

Malarky is a 47-foot Voyage sailing catamaran originally built in Cape Town, South Africa and designed for stability, comfort, and long days on the water.

The catamaran layout creates an incredibly smooth ride across San Diego Bay. The boat stays level and spacious, easy to walk around comfortably, relax with drinks, and enjoy the day without the rocking common on smaller yachts.

At 47 feet, there's plenty of room for your group to spread out and enjoy different parts of the boat throughout the charter.

Onboard features

The front bow nets are one of the most popular spots onboard, guests stretch out over the water while dolphins occasionally swim alongside the yacht through the wake.

Inside

Inside the yacht.

The interior of Malarky feels more like a modern waterfront lounge than a typical charter boat.

Large windows bring in natural light and frame views of the bay throughout the charter, while comfortable seating areas create a relaxed atmosphere for drinks, conversations, and meals onboard.

The indoor lounge becomes especially popular during sunset charters, when the skyline starts reflecting across the water and the entire bay glows during golden hour.

The private staterooms are available throughout the charter for guests who want space to change, relax, or step away for a quiet moment during the day.

The Bay

Cruise San Diego Bay.

San Diego Bay is one of the most scenic and calm boating destinations in California, the perfect setting for a private yacht charter.

Coronado Bridge

One of the most recognizable landmarks in San Diego, the Coronado Bridge creates an incredible backdrop for sunset photos, champagne toasts, and skyline views from the water.

USS Midway

Cruise alongside the historic USS Midway aircraft carrier docked in downtown San Diego, one of the most iconic waterfront views in the city.

Downtown Skyline

As the sun starts to set, the skyline reflects across the harbor and creates one of the most memorable moments of the entire charter.

Seaport Village & Embarcadero

The waterfront along downtown San Diego is filled with restaurants, marinas, sailboats, and classic Southern California harbor scenery.

Wildlife Sightings

Dolphins are commonly seen swimming alongside the yacht, while sea lions, pelicans, and other wildlife regularly appear throughout the bay.

Star of India

The world's oldest active sailing ship, docked at the Embarcadero, a quiet, beautiful landmark to cruise past.

Every route is flexible based on your group, the weather, and what kind of experience you want from the day.

On the Water

Anchor, swim, and relax.

Most longer charters include time to anchor in calm water so your group can swim, float, paddleboard, and enjoy the bay at your own pace.

Optional add-ons like paddleboards and the floating lily pad turn the charter into a full San Diego boat day.

Guests often spend anchor time:

The atmosphere stays private, relaxed, and easygoing throughout the day.

Captain & Crew

Concierge-style captain & crew.

Every Malarky charter includes a professional USCG-certified captain and friendly onboard crew.

Your captain handles navigation, anchoring, safety, and route planning. The crew helps create a smooth, relaxed experience throughout the day, pouring champagne for a toast, helping plate catering, setting up water toys, taking group photos during sunset, whatever helps the day feel effortless.

Because the experience is designed for smaller groups, service naturally feels more personal and attentive than a large public cruise.

Captain fee is $50/hour, paid directly to the captain at the end of your charter.

BYOB

BYOB luxury.

One of the things guests love most about Malarky is the freedom to bring exactly what they want onboard. Bring your own:

Many groups bring premium bottles they actually enjoy drinking instead of paying restaurant or bar markups onboard.

Whether you're planning an elegant sunset cruise or a fun birthday celebration, the experience feels much more personal when everything onboard is chosen by your group.

A couple of house rules: please, no drinking from glass on deck (pour into the plastic cups we provide), and no red wine (it permanently stains the deck). See the full BYOB charter details for more.
Occasions

Perfect for special occasions.

Malarky is built for intimate groups who want a more memorable experience on the water.

Bachelorette Parties

A more elevated and private alternative to crowded party cruises, with your own music, drinks, and atmosphere onboard. See the bachelorette charter.

Proposal Charters

Golden hour under the Coronado Bridge creates one of the most memorable settings in San Diego for a proposal. Talk to us about a proposal yacht charter.

Anniversaries

Relax with wine, skyline views, and a peaceful sunset cruise with the people closest to you. Plan an anniversary charter.

Milestone Birthdays

Perfect for 30th, 40th, 50th, and milestone celebrations that deserve more than a dinner reservation. Reserve a milestone birthday charter.

Executive & Corporate Outings

An ideal setting for client entertainment, leadership retreats, and small team gatherings where conversations can actually happen. Book a small-team executive charter.

Small Weddings & Elopements

A beautiful private venue surrounded by the San Diego skyline and calm bay waters. Plan a wedding or elopement charter.

Frequently Asked

Luxury charter questions, answered.

A few things. The boat itself is a 47-foot Voyage performance catamaran. Cape Town-built for blue-water voyaging, which translates to a wider beam, more interior volume, and better build quality than the average charter vessel. The interior has 4 actual staterooms, 2 bathrooms, an indoor lounge with modern decor and a mini fridge. The aft deck has shaded seating for around 8. The bow has a trampoline that hangs over the water. And the charter model is exclusive, your group books the entire boat. Twelve guests, captain and crew, no shared cruise.
Different definition of luxury. A 100-guest catamaran with a bartender, dance floor, and DJ is a luxury party experience, the right call for a milestone party or a 60-guest wedding. Malarky is the opposite end of the same spectrum: luxury through intimacy. Twelve guests max, the crew knows everyone's name by hour two, the music is yours, the pace is yours. Different boats for different occasions; we recommend our sister vessels Triton (up to 100) and Alana (up to 35) when group size doesn't fit Malarky.
The whole boat (47 feet, 12-guest exclusive), USCG-approved captain ($50/hr paid directly), full crew, indoor lounge with mini fridge, aft deck seating, bow trampoline, fuel, safety equipment. Optional add-ons: 15-foot lily pad, paddleboards, kayaks, tower pads. BYOB and BYOF allowed, bring your own beer, wine, champagne, spirits, snacks, takeout. The crew helps pour, plate, and serve throughout the charter. Catering can be arranged through our partner caterers, mention it at booking.
Yes. Malarky is one of the only yacht charters in San Diego that allows BYOB, and it's a feature, not a compromise. Bring premium spirits, top-shelf champagne, your favorite craft beer at retail prices instead of marked up 3 to 4x on a bar tab. Two rules: please, no drinking from glass on deck (pour into the plastic cups we provide), and no red wine (it permanently stains the deck). See our full BYOB charter details for the specifics.
Charters are $550/hour with a 2-hour minimum. The rate includes a crew member; a USCG-certified captain is $50/hour, paid directly to the captain. Add-ons itemized separately. The hourly rate is flat, same any day, any season. 3 to 4 hours is the recommended sweet spot for the typical experience. See our pricing page or call (844) 724-5787 with your date.
Two-hour minimum, but most luxury charters book 3 to 4 hours. That gives time to ease out into the bay, anchor at a swim or photo spot, set up any add-ons, eat and drink at pace, watch the city pass by, and head back without feeling rushed. Anything shorter feels like you're racing the clock.
Full deposit refund if you cancel 3 or more weeks before your charter. Free reschedule up to 1 week before departure. Within 1 week, the reservation is non-refundable. Reschedules to later dates are subject to availability.
