Malarky gives your group three different spaces to enjoy during the charter, so the day naturally has a nice flow.

The Bow

The bow trampoline is the photo zone. This is where the group shots happen, where the bride gets her golden-hour moment, and where the "everyone laughing on the front of the boat" photos end up in the weekend recap. The bow sits low over the water and gives you open views of San Diego Bay, the skyline, and the Coronado Bridge.

Plan to spend real time here once the boat is underway. It's one of the best spots on board for selfies, group photos, and those dreamy bachelorette shots everyone wants.

The Aft Deck

The aft deck is the main hangout space. It has shaded seating for about eight guests, with room for the full group to stand, mingle, sip champagne, snack, and celebrate the bride. This is where toasts happen, lunch or charcuterie gets served, and the group can settle in between photo moments and water activities.

In summer, the canopy stays up for sun protection. In cooler months, it may come off if your group wants more direct light.

The Indoor Lounge

The indoor lounge is your touch-up, outfit-change, and cool-down space. It has comfortable seating, a coffee table, big windows, a mini fridge for BYOB items, and a clean modern look that photographs well. It's perfect for makeup touch-ups, outfit changes, a quieter moment for the bride, or getting ready for the golden-hour photo set.

Activities that make the day even better.

The cruise itself is already a great time, but activities are what turn a bachelorette charter into a full event.

Water toys

Malarky can include paddleboards, kayaks, a 15-foot floating lily pad, and tower jump pads. The lily pad is especially popular for bachelorettes. It's fun, easy, and perfect for group photos and videos. If your group wants swim time, floating, and playful content, mention water toys when you book so we can have everything ready. Sunset cruise

If your charter includes sunset, the captain will position the boat for the best views. You'll get the Coronado Bridge, the skyline, and the bay as the light shifts from gold to pink to deep blue. This is usually the most photo-focused part of the charter and one of the biggest reasons bachelorette groups book the late-afternoon time slot. See the private sunset yacht charter page for more.

Anchor & swim time

For groups that want to swim, float, or use the water toys, the captain can anchor in protected areas like Coronado Cays, Glorietta Bay, or sheltered spots near Shelter Island. Most anchorages are about 30 minutes from the dock, depending on conditions. Once anchored, your group can enjoy the lily pad, paddleboards, swim platform, and relaxed time on the water.

Decor

You're welcome to bring light decor, such as banners, sashes, party-game cards, custom cups, or matching cover-ups. The boat is already a beautiful setting, so most groups keep decor simple and let the bay do the work.

Please avoid smoke machines, DJ booths, large props, confetti, glitter, or anything that needs adhesive on varnished surfaces. We have a sound system on board, so bring a Spotify playlist and connect by Bluetooth.
Photo Planning

Bachelorette charters create some of the best photos and videos we see all year. The boat is beautiful, the bay is beautiful, and everyone usually arrives ready for the camera. A little planning before the charter makes the day feel smooth and helps you get the photos you actually want.

Best photo spots

The bow trampoline is the hero shot. This is where you want the full group, bride in the center, with the Coronado Bridge or San Diego skyline behind you. The aft deck is great for champagne toasts, candid lunch moments, group laughs, and detail shots. The indoor lounge works well for outfit changes, bride portraits, getting-ready candids, and softer indoor photos. Together, these three areas give you plenty of variety without having to over-plan the day.

Best timing

Golden hour is the magic window. It usually starts about 90 minutes before sunset, when the light gets warmer and softer. If your charter includes golden hour, we recommend being in your dressier outfits and ready for bow photos during that time. The captain can help position the boat for the best angle.

Mid-afternoon charters are great for swimming, water toys, and bright sunny energy. Sunset charters are best for a more polished, champagne-and-skyline feel.

If you hire a photographer

Let your photographer know there are three main zones: bow, aft deck, and indoor lounge. For the bow shot, one of the best angles is from the helm deck looking forward. Photographers who haven't shot on Malarky before sometimes miss that angle, but it's one of the strongest perspectives on the boat.

We also recommend bringing a portable charger for your photographer. Phones and cameras get used heavily on the water, and batteries can drain faster than expected.

If you're using phones

No problem, most groups use phones, and the crew is happy to help take group photos. Just ask. Bring portable chargers for the group, especially if you plan to take lots of video. Waterproof phone pouches are also a good idea if you're using the water toys. If your group is planning to get lily pad photos, choose one person to stay on deck with the phone while everyone else gets in the water.

Timing & Length

Best charter length and time of day.

For bachelorettes, three to four hours is the sweet spot. Two hours is available, but it can feel rushed once everyone boards, settles in, gets drinks, takes photos, and starts enjoying the boat. Three to four hours gives your group time to cruise, swim, use water toys, have food, take photos, and enjoy the day without constantly checking the clock.

Weekend afternoons book first, especially in summer. Saturday and Sunday afternoon charters from May through September often book 4 to 8 weeks in advance. If your bachelorette weekend has a set date, we recommend reserving as soon as the date is confirmed.

Spring and fall weekends are usually available 2 to 4 weeks out. Weekdays and winter weekends tend to have more flexibility.

Outfits

Matching swimsuits and cover-ups are great for daytime and water-toy charters. A dressier change works well for late afternoon or sunset photos. The indoor lounge makes outfit changes easy without needing to leave the boat.

Decor

Keep it fun but simple. Bride sash, bridesmaid sashes, printed party games, matching cups, and a small banner all work well. Please avoid glass, red wine, smoke machines, glitter, confetti, large props, or anything that requires adhesive on delicate surfaces.

Tech

Bring fully charged phones, portable battery packs, a playlist ready to go, and waterproof phone pouches if you plan to use the water toys. The boat's sound system connects by Bluetooth.

Other helpful items

Gratuity isn't required, but it's always appreciated. Many groups tip 15% to 20% of the charter cost when they have a great experience.

Larger or Themed Bachelorettes

When to choose Alana or Triton instead.

Malarky is best for private, elevated bachelorette charters with 12 guests or fewer. If your group is larger or wants a more themed party-boat experience, one of our sister vessels may be a better fit.

Alana Yacht Rental

Alana is a great choice for groups of 13 to 35 guests who want a more themed, high-energy party experience. Think disco themes, pink or blue party packages, bar service, more dance space, and a bigger deck layout. It's still on San Diego Bay, but the vibe is very different from Malarky.

Triton Charters

Triton is best for larger groups of 36 to 100 guests. It's a 75-foot catamaran with a bartender, dance floor, full crew, and space for big celebrations. This is the better option for very large bachelorettes, wedding weekend events, or groups that invited everyone.

Different groups need different boats. Malarky is perfect for intimate, premium, BYOB bachelorettes. Alana is great for mid-size themed parties. Triton is built for larger celebrations.

Bachelorette charters on Malarky are $550 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. The rate includes full private use of the boat and a crew member for hospitality. A USCG-certified captain is required and hired separately at $50 per hour, paid directly to the captain.
